APRIL TRAVELS to New York City and the Washington, D. C. area. Carole will attend the Novelists Inc. conference in glitzy Times Square April 6-10, where she'll interview award-winning mystery author S. J. Rozan.

Carole leaves April 27 to be Toastmaster at Malice Domestic mystery convention in Virginia near Reagan National Airport. On the program: theatrical hijinks, songs, jokes, and glamourous hats. Malice is the mystery con with "Hattitude and cattitude," focusing on the softer, sharper side of mystery; the humor and social satire-driven novels someone named "cozies," but that often have a serious and even darkly noirish underbelly. Obviously, Louie and Irene are of this genre, as are Guests of Honor Joan Hess and H. R. F. Keating.

8:00 p.m. Friday: Malice Theatre of the Air presents a '50's-vintage radio play. Carole will introduce the event and have a small speaking part later: that of a cat who says "meow."

2:30 pm Saturday: The Imposterization panel where authors dress and talk like their characters. Carole will be Irene Adler.

7:00 pm Saturday: the Awards Banquet, Carole emceeing

2:00 p.m Sunday: the Closing Ceremonies and Hat Contest. A parade of hats both beautiful and sinister especially created for Malice. A Very Special Ghost . . . er, Guest will emcee the hat contest.

HIGHLIGHTS: 5:30 pm Friday: Carole at the Opening Ceremonies podium with Malice Chair Tom O'Day, introducing Guests of Honor and award candidates.

7:00 p.m. Friday: The newly inaugurated toastmaster interview. "Midnight Louie" and "Irene Adler" in character dress and attitude will grill their creator about her writing career.

Sunday, April 22, 1-6 P.M. in honor of Red Hat Day April 25 at Berry Good Buys Resale Store, 1701 W Berry St., Fort Worth, Texas 76110

This multi-Red-Hat club event will raise funds for SafeHaven Tarrant County women and children's shelter. Refreshments and Red Hat gear bargains. Door prizes will include two signed copies of the not-yet-on-bookshelves Midnight Louie, PI, feline sleuth mystery, CAT in a RED HOT RAGE, which is set at a Las Vegas Red Hatter convention where death stalks the red and purple and pink, and three DEEP PURPLE Midnight Louie T-shirts.

On the enterrainment roster, Carole done her Marilyn Monroe impersonation regalia to perform her song parody, "Red Hats Are a Girl's Best Friends," and will join Midnight Louie in reading brief scene from CAT in a RED HOT RAGE.
